Department of Biological Sciences
- Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
- Sustainability, Ecosystems, and Environment
Ecology, Evolution, Environment & Society (EEES) is a new vision for scholarship, education, and service. We are a diverse community of scholars who conduct research in the natural sciences and environmental studies, including ecology, evolution, anthropology, environmental economics, geography, and earth sciences. Our program balances the study of traditional paradigms and theory with the practical applications of science and social science that are important components of scholarship in the Anthropocene.
There are two overlapping tracks of scholarship and training in the EEES program. Both contain a core of ecology and ecosystem science, with one track focusing on Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB), and the other focusing on Sustainability, Ecosystems, and Environment (SEE). The latter has the added dimension of environmental social science. Ph.D. students and postdoctoral scientists from EEES will have exceptional training for a growing range of professional positions. This is illustrated by the success of recent graduates of our program.
