The Master of Science degree in Biology focuses on the preparation of a research thesis. Graduates who earn the Master of Science degree should possess an academic background adequate to enable them to proceed into advanced academic (doctoral) or professional (e.g., medical, dental, or other health-related programs) programs, or to enter the work force in an array of biological contexts (e.g., government agencies, environmental consulting, teaching, biological products development and marketing).
The Department offers broad coverage of biology in which this degree can be pursued. Areas of specialization include ecology, population biology, aquatic biology and limnology, genetics, physiology, comparative anatomy and morphology, microbiology, systematics, genetics and molecular biology. Each graduate student works closely with one or more faculty members, who direct the student's course work and research.
