Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources
From land and energy development to biodiversity loss and climate change, significant threats loom for people, plants, wildlife, and places across the planet. In addition to addressing these challenges in the field, conservation practitioners are also faced with a communications and knowledge gap: The general public, including local community members and landowners, as well as policymakers, industry officials, and the media are less concerned about and paying less attention to critical and urgent environmental changes and risks. And while many managers and scientists recognize the need for greater communication, interpretation, and even advocacy and policy-making, most report they are reluctant or unsure about venturing into communications for conservation.
The online Graduate Certificate in Communications for Conservation at Colorado State University offers conservation practitioners and communicators a holistic program for learning ideas, skills, and tools to communicate and engage with a wide range of public stakeholders, including media and communications specialists, decision-makers and thought leaders, other scientists, and everyday citizens.
