Description

The quality of the master’s programs in parks, recreation, and tourism management is nationally recognized. The quality of the Department’s faculty, facilities, and graduate students is outstanding. As evidence of this quality, NC State University is successful in placing master’s graduates in various professional positions and doctoral programs throughout the United States.

The emphasis of the Master of Science degree is the application of social science theory and research in solving management and policy problems. This degree requires the in-depth study of an issue or topic in recreation, tourism or sport management. Students seeking this degree must have an interest in pursuing independent research. This degree is often used as the foundation for continuing graduate studies and obtaining a doctoral degree.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management offers Graduate Assistantships to our on-campus doctoral and master’s degree students. A full, 20-hour/week assistantship carries a stipend, and it covers tuition and health insurance in accordance with the NC State Graduate Student Support Plan. The number of assistantships varies each year dependent on the amount and sources of funds. You are not required to apply for them separately, just apply to our graduate program using our convenient web-based application system.
